Israeli Navy Commander calls Gaza Fleet Unnecessary and Provocative

The commander of the Israeli Navy, MajGen Eliezer Merom, called the upcoming ‘Gaza Freedom Fleet’ an unnecessary and provocative action.

In a statement posted on the website of the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) MajGen Merom says, that the recently organized ‘hate fleet’ has the purpose to provoke another clash with Israeli soldiers, create a media provocation and delegitimize Israel.

“Many in the international community have recently called on organizers of the planned flotilla to cancel it, explaining that there is no humanitarian problem and that all goods may enter Gaza via land crossings with advance coordination,” MajGen Merom said.

The Israeli Navy Chief’s statement was made during a graduation ceremony after a navy diver’s course at Haifa Naval Base.
